Chair, Founder and Senior Instructor –
5th Generation successor of Wu style Taiji Quan

Michael began to study Taiji Quan in London in 1976. Over the years, he’s studied Yang Style, Wu Style, Hsing Yi, Ba Gua and some Chen Style.

In 1992, he moved to China, and in Shanghai he met Master Li Li Qun, a 4th generation master of Wu style Taiji Quan and a traditional doctor and master of Therapeutic Qi Gong. Master Li was a leading exponent of the Wu Style and a disciple of Grandmaster Ma Yueh Liang.

Michael stayed in China for three and a half years studying traditional Wu style hand and weapons forms. He also studied Qi Gong under Master Li, and received permission to teach both Wu style Taiji Quan and Qi Gong.

In 1996, he began teaching in London, and returned frequently to China to further his studies with Master Li. In 2004 he returned to China for a year of study and in 2006, he hosted Master Li in London, when the Wu Shi Taiji Quan & Qi Gong Association was formally inaugurated.

Master Li retired from teaching in 2010, and in 2011 Master Liu Ji Fa, a Taiji brother and friend of Master Li and also a disciple of Grandmaster Ma, became Michael’s mentor and ‘Elder Teaching Brother’.

Together they visited the graves of Wu Jian Quan, Ma Yueh Liang and Wu Ying Hua to pay their respects and cement their friendship. In 2015, Master Liu Ji Fa visited London and became the Association’s Technical Advisor and Coach.
